Performing in the Great Outdoors

Couldn’t be happier that August is heating up!

Normally, I’m the first one to complain about the weather.  After all, I’m from the Midwest and, that’s just what we do.  However, August is going to be “hot” in a super good way. There’s going to be lots of exciting music events!

Madison Wisconsin, especially the East Side, blossoms  with festivals during the summer.  We save our party up all winter long and have to let it all out over just a few short months.

For me it’s an opportunity to expose my music to the light of day.

My band, BingBong will be playing Thursday, August 8th at the Sessions at McPike Park in Madison.  We kick things off at 5pm ahead of the Figgs and the Bottle Rockets.

On Friday, August 9th, BingBong plays a two hours of our signature power pop at the Lone Girl Brewing Company in Waunakee.  We’ll start at 8pm on their roof top patio.

The very next day, I’ll be dusting off my solo act and heading to the Great Taste of the Midwest at Olin Park. Yes, outside again!  Here’s where I get to play a bunch of songs from the back catalog and I’m really looking forward to it!  This event is sold out but, if you’ve already purchased a ticket, stop by and say, “Hi!”  I’ll be the one…under that tree…there…playing tunes and drinking beer.

One week later on Saturday, August 17th, BingBong will be headlining the ever-so-groovy Eken Park Festival.  There are some super bands in the line-up so come early and stick around as we’ll be playing at 6:30.

That’s right!  Every single show in August is an outdoor event.  So, slather on the sun screen and pull out that floppy hat.  August is a HEATER!

I’ll be blogging about the shows so stay tuned and pray for clear skies!

I have a question for you performers out there:  Is there a difference in terms of how you prepare for an outdoor gig?

I personally do some things differently (I’ll get into that in another post).

What are your thoughts?
